"They were on land.
It was the merest handhold, 100 feet wide and 50 feet deep. Am meager grip on a savage coast, exposed to the full fury of the Antarctic Ocean. But no matter- they were on land. For the first time in 497 days they were on land. Solid, unsinkable, immovable, blessed land (175)".
This quote shows the turning point of the novel. This is significant because they are finally on land and are closer to be rescued. They can now build shelters which will better protect them since they were stuck on their boats for so long. The conditions of all the men will most likely improve or will not become worse. They might be able to better take care of those who were not doing well.
This example of a turning can relate to our lives because we experience many turning points throughout our lives. These turning points can be anywhere from learning to ride a bike or graduating from high school. Turning points almost always have a significant impact on our lives.
I agree with this. I think that your thoughts are clear and easy to understand. This quote shows the turning point in the novel.
